Information about the
Rescue Swimmer (DRSA)
The rescue swimmer in Water Rescue is the preliminary stage to the rescue swimmer in the water rescue service. Every active member of Water Rescue holds at least the silver rescue swimming badge (DRSA Silver) and renews it regularly. The rescue swimming course lays the foundation for rescue swimming and creates a common base on which rescue swimmers can work together. Further information about the individual badges can be found on our rescue swimming courses page. In recent years, rescue swimming has changed significantly and the actual rescue swimming course has evolved into a basic training that serves as the foundation for active rescue swimmers in the water rescue service for water rescuer, swiftwater rescuer and training programmes such as air rescuer. The medical component of water rescue has also developed considerably. While a first aid course used to be the standard training for rescue swimmers, today all active rescue swimmers typically hold a paramedic certificate or further medical qualifications such as emergency medical technician.
