BRK Wasserwacht Unterhaching
The Municipality of Unterhaching
The settlement of the Haching Valley can be traced back to at least 1100 BC based on grave finds. Between the fifth and eighth centuries, the Bavarian tribe formed, evidenced here by an Old Bavarian row grave field. In a burial site from around 500 AD with skeletons of four men, five women and a girl, discovered in 2004, rare pieces of jewellery were found that suggest a wealthy family.
The name Haching derives from the personal name Hacho and the noble family of the Hahilinga. The name Haching was first mentioned in 806 in a document in which Abbot Petto bequeathed his property there to the Monastery of Schaeftlarn. Haching is thus several hundred years older than Munich.
The name Unterhaching first appears in 1180 in a property register of the Bishop of Freising.
Around 1310, the village church, which still exists today under the name St. Korbinian, was built. It is thus the oldest building in Unterhaching and is located in the "Alter Ort" district.
Until secularisation in 1803, the surrounding monasteries were the landlords. This also explains the municipal coat of arms, which to this day shows the abbot's staff of the Schaeftlarn Monastery and the water lily leaf from the coat of arms of the Tegernsee Monastery.
Unterhaching was a purely farming village until the early 20th century. Only with the connection to the railway (1898) and postal network did the transformation into a residential community begin.
On 1 April 1955, the district of Ottobrunn separated and became an independent municipality.
In 1966, construction began on two new large housing estates, the Gruenau and the Fasanenpark, which finally changed the character of Unterhaching into a modern residential settlement.
The population exploded from 616 inhabitants in 1900 to 22,327 in 2009.
